ONE of Winchester’s oldest theatres was transformed into a glittering catwalk last week.

The Chesil Theatre hosted a sold-out fashion show on Thursday (May 30) with help from neighbouring Bridge Street dress shop The Clothes Line.

Models also wore some of the theatre’s period costumes from past productions, such as Eleanor Marsden as Pygmalion’s Eliza Doolittle and Mimi Gilles in corset and bloomers.

The event was raising funds to go towards expanding the theatre and more than £1,700 was collected thanks to some star power in an auction.

Dame Judi Dench provided a signed script while Sir Ian McKellen donated an autographed tie. Several other items were provided by local businesses including No 5 Bridge Street, Little Minster Street Hairdressing and Movers & Shapers gym.

Organiser Ros Liddiard said: “Planning this show has been immensely rewarding. Thanks to the set designer, building crew, lighting and sound technicians, a ‘proper’ catwalk in authentic fashion house ambience was skilfully achieved. The wardrobe team produced a stunning array of costumes and Ali Galvin’s section blended perfectly into the theatrical scheme.

“The whole effect was wonderfully complemented by the energy and professionalism of the models, all Chesil members. We are grateful to our enthusiastic audience for their generosity.”
