A RECORD turnout of trail runners and cyclists were on hand as Dickie Davies did the honours at the start of the annual Houghton Trail.

Over 300 people took part, raising an impressive £3,750.

Fiona Evans, an organiser, said: “We love holding this event as much as the runners and cyclists love doing it. They come back year after year, bringing their mates. Added to the fun were some new course records. There are no prizes at this event - it is pure fun and all proceeds go to the charity.”

The trail took place on April 28 amid glorious weather, with music and supporters relaxing at outside tables.

This year saw the addition of the road-free 5K cycle ride, which proved a hit with youngsters.

Matthew King broke his own record to finish over the 11k course in a time of 40:21, while Kirsty Coltart set a new record of 48:37 for the ladies in the 11K.

All proceeds will go to All Saints Church.
