WINCHESTER pupils got a behind-the-scenes look at one of the city’s top hotels last week.

Pupils from The Westgate School enjoyed an ‘experience’ morning at the Winchester Hotel last Wednesday (March 13) as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

They took part in an interactive kitchen demonstration with head chef Neil Dore and heard a talk on hospitality apprenticeships before being treated to lunch in the hotel restaurant.

Mr Dore said: “Apprenticeships are a great way to pass on knowledge and experience to young people, and to help inspire them. Doing an apprenticeship at the workplace gives the learner real life skills and experience whilst learning.

“It's also the best way for trained and dedicated chefs to impart knowledge and inspire future generations, and it always gives me a great deal of pleasure to see young people complete their apprenticeships and gain their qualifications."

The visit was organised by HIT Training, the UK’s leading hospitality apprenticeship provider.
