WINCHESTER residents can make money out of their spare rooms in a new service starting next month.

From April the Two Saints Supported Lodgings service allows residents to earn income from their spare rooms by renting them to local 16 to 24-year-olds.

Around 80,000 young people experience homelessness each year and a recent Homeless Link survey found more than half the UK's shelters and support groups are unable to help because they are full.

But through the scheme hosts can earn up to £70 per week by renting a room and will also be paid for support they give their lodger.

Two Saints will provide a learning co-ordinator to assist the landlord and help the young person with education, employment and training.

A support worker will also be assigned to help both landlord and tenant.
