A WINCHESTER church has raised nearly £350 for the local nightshelter for the homeless.

Church-goers staged a concert in the Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located on Christchurch Road, on December 8.

Musicians ranged from primary aged children, to young adults and even some of self-confessed oldies.

Music included an upbeat version of Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Good, a George Formby song accompanied by a ukulele and Wouldn't it be Loverly from My Fair Lady.

Many other songs rang out in the church hall, accompanied by guitars, violin, flute, and enthusiastic applause from the appreciative audience.

The accompanying photograph shows Brother John Beck, first counsellor of the Winchester Ward Bishopric, presenting the cheque to Roger Outlaw, one the shelter’s directors.
