Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) has teamed up with residents from Winchester Churches Nightshelter to clear the city streets.

A team of four residents from the nightshelter ensured doorways of local businesses were cleared and paths gritted.

The operation was part of a BID procedure in place for the past two years although it was sprung into action.

Catherine Turness, BID projects manager, said: “This project was introduced after comments from BID Members that they need a little bit of help during the snowy season at keeping the area around their premises safe for staff and customers. We are extremely grateful for the help from local residents of the Nightshelter.”

Nightshelter manager, Michele Price added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our homeless guests to volunteer and to feel that they can be useful at the same time helping out the local community.”
