THE way is clear for Sainsbury's to start developing its superstore in Bishop's Waltham.

The company said it was pleased the Department for Transport has resolved to allow the stopping up of Station Road to motorised through traffic.

A public inquiry into the stopping up of Station Road, necessary as a result of a single objection from a local resident, was held in October 2012.

The Government-appointed planning inspector, John Wilde, recommended that the order be made without modification.

As per DfT practice, there will now be a short period before the stopping up order (SUO) can be formally made.

Sainsbury's expects building work to begin this summer.
