A FORMER Westgate and Peter Symonds’ student will take the next step in preparation for a gruelling charity challenge in a ‘static row’ in Winchester.

Will North, 27, will row 12 hours non-stop on a machine in The Square on Saturday, December 22, from 9am to 9pm.

It is part of an Atlantic Row charity fundraising campaign which sees Will and friend Dan Howie rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic in December 2013, as reported in last week’s Chronicle.

Will, who grew up in Shawford, said: “I’ve only rowed for six hours straight before so this is quite daunting. But I’m not too nervous as the six hours wasn’t a struggle and I’m feeling very fit.” The pair are aiming to secure corporate sponsorship of £80,000 to take part in the challenge.

The money raised on December 22 will go towards buying a £10,000 boat for the Atlantic crossing. Money raised from the pair’s Atlantic Row challenge will be equally divided between charities Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, Cancer Research UK, and St Anna’s, a children’s charity in Ghana.
