POLICE are hunting a thug who attacked a female Good Samaritan in Winchester.

The nurse was attacked after she helped a man lying in the street in a punch-up outside a pub, police said this afternoon.

The attack happened near to the County Arms public house in Romsey Road at around 6.40pm on Sunday, November 11.

The victim, aged 23, drove past a group of men fighting in the street and noticed a man lying in the road.

She thought he was injured and stopped her car to drag him from the road to prevent him being hit by any vehicles.

But as she got up from checking he was OK she was punched in the face by another man, causing bruising.

The attacker is white, in his late 40s, about five feet nine inches tall, stocky, bald and wearing a grey suit.

PC Glen Willis-Long, from Winchester police station, said: “This was a totally unprovoked assault on a member of the public who had stopped to see if a man needed medical help.

“The location for the incident is a busy road and it is likely that other people witnessed this incident or the fight beforehand and may have useful information.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact PC Willis-Long at North Walls police station by phoning 101.

Mini-Com users can call the police on 18001 101. Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

This is why people are now cautious to help others in a variety of situations. This is a despicable act and the punishment should be severe. If they find this person, 10 years in jail wouldn't be long enough for them.
