Mystery surrounds UFO sighting
THE mystery surrounding a dozen orange lights seen over Basingstoke at the weekend has deepened with aviation authorities unable to offer an explanation.
Strange lights in the sky were spotted by a number of residents in the Basingstoke area between 10.40pm and 11.10pm on Saturday.
David Osborne, of Loggon Road, Cranbourne, Basingstoke, said he saw lights south of Basingstoke, from his bedroom window.
He claims they were moving in from the Alton to Odiham direction.
He immediate phoned RAF Odiham but after staff at base said they would not investigate, the 47-year-old telephoned The Gazette.
He said: "I saw some eerie strange lights. They were bright orange and very high in the sky.
"I've never seen anything like it before in my life."
Mr Osborne, said they did not resemble any aircraft movements, as he was familiar with airfields at RAF Odiham, Lasham and Popham.

A flurry of UFO reports in Wales last week coincided with a wedding party releasing dozens of blazing Chinese lanterns, which rise into the sky like hot-air balloons.
The National Air Traffic Service has confirmed it had no recorded incidents that night.
Jane Johnston, spokesperson for the NATS, said: "There was nothing unusual reported that night that was reported that would necessitate logging it."
The Ministry of Defence said it took no active role in identifying UFO sightings.
In a statement, the MoD said: "Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported."
Anyone who witnessed the unexplained phenomena in the Basingstoke area, can email newsdesk@basingstokegazette. co.uk or call 01256 337444.

This appears quite like a number of similar sighting in and around the west country over the last few weeks; they were attributed to Roman Candles. Not much effort is needed to find the details of these on line.

The only strange lights you see on a irregular basis around here is the evening bus service.

I suppose everyone will be a critic until they see the evidence in front of them.
I'll be sceptical about such things until I see any evidence too, but I have an open mind.
I often look up into the sky but fail to see anything apart from the usual 'Chinooks' a moon, and a few scattered stars.
One day maybe, one day?

Why oh Why are people so critical. If you you look at the bigger picture, we are 1 planet in trillions that exist in many solar systems. We think we know so much and trust our own judgment and education when infact we know so little about ourselves, our planet and other life forms... lol, just a thought!!!

My God man!!
Read the news!! I'm not a debunker at all! I believe in the ufo phenomena... However, its glaringly obvious that these so called orange orb sightings are on the increase more and more as this year roll's on... And the description says it all!! Orange/fiery/cylindr
ical orbs flying in some kind of formation... CHINESE LANTERNS!!!!
Please get educated people.. Its a new craze to hit the UK and we need to stop blurring the lines here and wasting the paper's time with these reports... This is not the only area to be hit with this problem... google 'ufo' on a daily basis and you'll see exactly the same reports country wide!!
check this website out www.skylanterns.com
and read testimonials from these people who are flying these lanterns...they're blatantly laughing at people for thinking the lanterns are UFO's...
Please.. i'm getting tired of reading the same reports every day...

I've seen these too, on many occasions. They fly in formation and in a group around Basingstoke and if you live in the Beaconsfield Road area of the town you'll maybe have seen them actually land !
They are in fact a group of birds out for a spot of excercise and reflect the light from the town's orange sodium street lights rather well. Their movements are fast ( they are after all racing birds ) and fluid.
Have a closer look next time and you'll realise that they're not too high, just small and closer than you think.
Coooo !!!

Did you know they had taken the word 'gullible' out of the dictionary in Basingstoke?
Please stop giving the outside world the impression that when Park Prewett shut up shop, the patients were dispersed into the surrounding community.

Not sure which I find the most tiresome, news media for continually running these sightings as UFO stories (regardless of the data), or self-styled 'UFO experts' who continue to promote the myth (ignoring the data).
