Police officer has leg broken during a fight in Winchester
A WINCHESTER police officer had her leg broken after trying to break up a fight in Winchester.
At around 1.20am on Sunday, (May 18), P.C Louise Trigg was on patrol in Winchester city centre with another officer when they came across a fight outside Bar 31, in The Square.
The officers intervened in an attempt to stop the fight, during which P.C Trigg fell to the floor and sustained a broken leg.
Detective Constable Jamie Richardson, said: "We believe there were a number of people involved in this altercation and I would like to appeal directly to anyone who was involved to come forward so that we can ascertain whether they have any information that could assist our enquiry.
"I would also appeal to any taxi drivers or motorists who passed the incident at the time."
Winchester District Commander, Chief Inspector Steve France-Sargeant, said: "Although Winchester remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit, there are occasions when police officers and Police Community Support Officers deal with violent incidents in the course of protecting and serving the public.
"I appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident or may have any further information that may assist the police in investigation, to come forward.
"I am very proud of my officers for their courage and sense of duty in patrolling Winchester. Incidents like this highlight the dangers they face when responding to public order of this type.
"Together and in partnership we can make this historic city and district an even safer place to live."
A 25-year-old man from Stockbridge has been arrested on suspicion of affray and causing grevious bodily harm and has been released on police bail until August 20.
A 21-year-old man from Andover has been arrested on suspicion of affray and has been released on police bail until August 20.
A 24-year old man from Stockbridge has been arrested on suspicion of affray and has been released on police bail until August 20.
