Murder inquiry team revisit site

POLICE investigating the discovery of a woman's body Dummer last Thursday, (May 8) have returned to the area to speak to the community.

Officers are stopping motorists, dog walkers, joggers, horse riders and visitors to the area to appeal for information.

The badly burnt body of the woman was found by a dog walker just before 6.30am on Thursday morning.

Officers from the enquiry team are speaking to anyone may have been in the area 24 hours before the discovery was made to see if they have any information.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary O'Flaherty, from the major crime team, said: "It is now one week since the discovery of the woman's body and detectives and local officers have returned to the village to try and obtain further information that can help us catch the person responsible.

"I would again like to thank residents for their cooperation and tolerance as we conduct our enquiries."

Investigations are continuing to try and establish the identity of the woman, who police think was white, aged in her late teens to early 30s, slender build with blonde or light brown hair and around 5ft 6ins tall.

She was wearing a distinctive size 10 New Look hooded jacket and an unusual watch distributed by Hama, a consumer electronics company based in Basingstoke.

These watches are not for sale; they are given to selected business customers or employees and are quite rare.

Detectives also know the woman was taken to the scene in an Eagle suitcase which was then set alight.

Extensive enquiries are being made with forces across the country and other agencies to see if they recognise the description of the woman.

Forensic tests are also continuing to help officers identify her.

Anyone with any information should contact the Operation Fletcher investigation team on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
