SIR — What a shame Tesco doesn’t display a board as you enter, saying: “New store, new parking. Have you paid and displayed?”

How sad, after coming to Winchester regularly, to have our most recent visit blighted. We have shopped and attended many a car boot sale in the top car park over the years, so had gotten used to free parking as one of the benefits of shopping at Tesco.

So why on earth has parking now become a private concern? Knowing the store had undergone a revamp, with new departments opened, we decided to take a tour and grab a coffee. What an absolute letdown to find it was just run-of-the-mill, lacking style and foresight, plus it cost £70 to park, due to staying too long shopping and looking around the new store!

I am sure your readers will testify that there are no obvious visible signs or warnings to notify of the changes to parking. Considering the amount of money spent on the work and promoting the new store, would it not have been right and fitting to spend a few extra pounds to make the parking charges more obvious?
