SIR — What perfect timing on the part of the highways department!
After several days of standing at Winchester rail station in the evening, wondering where the bus service 2 for Stanmore and Oliver’s Battery had got to, I now discover after a call to Stagecoach that it has been temporarily rerouted due to the roadworks in Sparkford Road.
This comes just at the start of the new school term and the main return to work which accompanies it.
Stagecoach tell me that the timetable boxes at bus stops are county council property and bus operators have no access to them!
So the information leaflets they have printed have to be stuck to the outside and are continually removed by unhelpful members of the public, hence the disgruntled queue at the station who have no idea what is going on.
For those of us who use the railway station and live at the far end of Oliver’s Battery, this is no joke.
The long walk from Badger Farm Road using service 5 is extremely trying for anyone with mobility problems, and apparently this could go on for as long as 10 weeks.
