Oscar winner Alicia Vikander is a running, jumping, gun-toting Lara Croft in the first trailer for the Tomb Raider reboot.

The Ex Machina actress, who also brandishes a bow and arrow in the first footage from the film, takes over the role from Angelina Jolie, who made two movies inspired by the popular video games.

The trailer shows Croft discover a video made for her by her eccentric adventurer father, played by Dominic West, who went missing when she was a child.

She then leaves her job as a bike courier in London behind to search for her father’s last known destination, a fabled tomb on an island.

The footage also shows her under fire from a mysterious gang and embarking on a boat journey that ends in a dangerous storm.

Hateful Eight star Walton Goggins, Kristin Scott Thomas and Nick Frost also feature in the trailer.

Tomb Raider, directed by Roar Uthaug, will be released in UK cinemas in March 2018.
