A whole 16 years after its release Nelly’s debut album Country Grammar has gone diamond, selling 10 million units.
The St Louis rapper had a number of hits on the album, including E.I, Ride Wit Me and Country Grammar.
Nelly was surprised with the award by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and posted about his “amazing” night on Instagram.
And it wasn’t even Nelly’s last surprise of the night – he also received a diamond plaque for his single collaboration with Florida Georgia Lines, Cruise.
Country Grammar, meanwhile, becomes just the ninth hip hop album in history to receive a diamond certification.
The exclusive club is made up of two Eminem albums; the Marshall Mathers LP and the Eminem Show, two Tupac albums; All Eyez On Me and Greatest Hits, Notorious BIG’s Life After Death, OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, and Mc Hammer’s Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em.
