Former JLS star Aston Merrygold is back in the charts as a solo act.

The singer, who went solo after the boyband split in 2013, is at number 16 with his debut single Get Stupid, according to early sales figures from the Official Charts Company.

The track is the lead single from his debut solo album Show Stopper, which will be released in October.

The race for this week’s number one single pitches current chart toppers, Little Mix, against another X Factor act in the shape of Ella Henderson whose collaboration with Sigma is in second place.

The duo’s track, Glitterball, is just 2,500 sales short of Little Mix’s track Black Magic.

Dance duo The Chemical Brothers are topping the album charts with their eighth studio album, Born In The Echoes, ahead of Communion by Years And Years which is in second place.
