Disney Pixar chiefs are jumping with Joy after their latest adventure, Inside Out, took the top spot at the UK box office.

The animated movie, featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader, opened at the number one spot in the UK, with estimated takings of £7 million.

Directed by Bafta and Oscar-winning filmmaker Pete Docter, who also directed Monsters, Inc. and Up, Inside Out has already taken 550 million US dollars (£355 million) globally, following its record-breaking debut in the US.

Inside Out, which received a 10-minute standing ovation at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, follows the inner emotions and turmoil of an 11-year-old girl as her world turns upside down when her parents decide to move across the country.

The film has already won some celebrity fans including Chloe Grace Moretz, Eric Bana, Kyle MacLachlan and Larry King.

Disney are celebrating a double whammy as Marvel’s Ant-Man had a big impact, taking the second spot in the UK with £2.3 million.

The action adventure, starring Paul Rudd as the shrinking superhero alongside Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Pena, held on to its number one spot in the US.

Ant-Man has taken 226.5 million US dollars (£146 million) worldwide to date.
