Under The Dome star Dean Norris has promised the show’s third series will be the best yet.

The 52-year-old actor, who reprises his role as town councilman James ‘Big Jim’ Rennie in the drama, teased fans will be pleased with the new season.

“It’s a good one. Season three is really the one we’ve been waiting for,” he said.

“It’s going to get crazy. We start right where we ended – everyone trying to get out of the dome to this tunnel, and the question is, where does it go to? This is the season when we find out why the dome’s there, where it came from, whether it was good or bad.”

Dean said portraying Big Jim is “so much fun” this series.

“The Big Jim character this year is so much fun. I love playing him and I love him as a character. He might not be the best guy to have as a neighbour but when you’re going against this crazy dome, he might be just the guy you want,” he explained.

The actor continued: “This season, he may seem like the sanest guy there. There’s this kind of force that comes over the town, and they’re trying to con the town into thinking one thing but Big Jim’s the guy. With his narcissism and craziness, he’s able to see through that BS and he’s the guy you want doing that. It’s going to be a fun season with him.”

The third series also sees the arrival of Marg Helgenberger, who plays Christine Price.

“When I heard that Marg was going to join the show, I was so excited. I immediately went to the writers and producers and said, ‘You better give me some great scenes with her’ and they have,” Dean said.

“She’s fantastic, she’s a TV legend. I love what I do, I love to act and it’s so much fun when you get someone like that on the other side of the net that you’re playing tennis with. So any day that I get to go on set and she’s there and we’re doing scenes together is a great day.”

The third series of Under The Dome begins at 10pm on Channel 5 on Monday, June 29.
