Tom Hanks is considering starring in new movie The Circle.
The Captain Phillips star is in talks to feature in the big-screen adaptation of David Eggers’ novel, reported Deadline.
The Spectacular Now’s James Ponsoldt will direct the movie from his own script, while Tom will also be attached as a producer alongside his Playtone partner Gary Goetzman.
The sci-fi novel, published in 2013, focuses on a young woman who is hired for a job in an internet monopoly called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.
The book explores the dangers of life in a digital age where personal data is collected, sifted and sold, and used for surveillance, rendering privacy as obsolete.
Tom, last seen portraying studio boss Walt Disney in Saving Mr Banks, will next star in A Hologram For The King, the adaptation of another David Eggers novel.
