Kimberley Walsh and Denise Van Outen are among stars encouraging bakers around the UK to rise to the occasion, holding a cake sale for BBC Children In Need.

Along with actress Kara Tointon and presenter Laura Whitmore, they slipped on floral frocks to promote the charity's Be A Baking Hero campaign to recruit thousands of people to sell their tasty treats.

Denise said: "There really is nothing better than a slice of cake, so come on Britain, be a hero and get baking for BBC Children In Need this year."

They want viewers to choose a classic cake, pull on their pinnies and make their own version for the annual charity fundraising drive which this year takes place on November 14.

In the run-up to the big day, celebrities will be championing particular cakes - S ir Terry Wogan is behind lemon drizzle, Fearne Cotton is backing carrot cake, Matt Baker is supporting fruit cake, Tess Daly is on the side of Victoria sponge, Nick Grimshaw favours chocolate cake and Alex Jones is fighting for Battenberg.

Singer and new mum Kimberley said of the baking challenge: "It is fun, delicious and will go on to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK."

The fundraising pack is available at bbc.co.uk/Pudsey. To date, the public has raised more than £740 million for the charity, which helps disadvantaged young people.
