Noel Gallagher has warned Zayn Malik to “get a good accountant” because life is going to be tough outside the world’s most successful boyband.

The High Flying Birds star has given a typically outspoken interview to Rolling Stone magazine, in which he also ridicules Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal and accused brother Liam Gallagher of giving fans false hope of an Oasis reunion.

Asked his advice for Zayn since he quit One Direction, Noel said: “I’d say, ‘get a good accountant because life is very f***ing long’.”

“It’s a strange thing for that lad to have done at that age. The greatest quote was — I laughed out loud when I read it – ‘I just want to be a normal 22-year-old.’

“Who wants to be a normal 22-year-old?! Hang on a minute. You can be f***ing anything that moves and gettin’ paid half a million dollars a week, you idiot. You want to be a normal 22-year-old? Have you met any normal 22-year-olds?

“I’ll say this to you, Zayn: You might have wanted to be a normal 22-year-old, but you won’t want to be a normal 25-year-old.”

Jay Z

The 47-year-old rocker also mocked Jay Z’s Tidal launch, saying the stars involved – who included Madonna, Kanye West, Rihanna and Beyonce – needed to write better music before they went to such lengths to protect it.

Noel said: “I think ultimately with the spiel they came out with, it was like, ‘Do these people think they’re the Avengers?’

“I was speaking to Chris [Martin] the day after, and I said, ‘Are you after a Nobel Peace Prize? Is that what you’re after?’ They were like, ‘We’re going to save the music business.’ And I’m just sitting there, thinking you might want to write a decent chorus for a start. Never mind royalties and the ‘power of music’. Write a tune. Start with that.”

And the musician also hit out at his brother for recently sparking new rumours of a possible Oasis reunion by posting a picture of himself online wearing a High Flying Birds backstage pass captioned: “Keeping it in the family.”

Noel said: “It wasn’t his pass. He wasn’t there. It was my other brother’s pass. If he’d been at one of my gigs, you would’ve known about it because he’d have made his way onstage and started acting like a f***ing gobs***e. He’s being a bit disingenuous to Oasis fans in the sense that he always gets their hopes up.

“It’s always left to me in an interview to let the kids down.”
