Solange Knowles made headlines for all the wrong reasons after the Met Gala last year, when video emerged of her attacking brother-in-law Jay Z in the lift of a New York hotel.

Speculation was rife as to just what the hip hop mogul had done to make Solange so mad. And people wondered if it would put a strain on family relations.

We still don’t know why Solange got so angry that night. But one year on, the 28-year-old singer has put it all behind her and attended the Met Gala with her head held high. Well, it had to be so she could see over the top of her strange circular dress…

The last 12 months have been pretty important for Solange.

In May last year, after the video footage of her temper tantrum emerged, she had to publicly admit she did not always see eye-to-eye with her sister’s hubby.

In a joint statement with Jay Z and Beyonce, Solange said, “families have problems and we’re no different”.

And they admitted that while the incident was unfortunate, “the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.

“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

Solange was already in the public eye when the lift rift happened. The singer, actress and model had even done a few temporary stints in Destiny’s Child, but up until May last year had always been in the shade of her big sis.

After the elevator bust-up, suddenly everybody wanted to talk to Solange, and the spotlight was well and truly on her for a change.

She did not break her silence until two months later in July last year, when she gave an interview to Lucky magazine.

Solange spoke to the mag about “that thing”, insisting: “What’s important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”

Then in November we finally knew for certain that all must be well between Solange and her family, when Beyonce was maid of honour at her wedding.

Solange – who has a 10-year-old son Julez from her first marriage – married video director Alan Ferguson who she had been dating for over two years.

Beyonce, Jay Z and their daughter Blue Ivy all jetted into New Orleans for the ceremony.

Solange wore a long white gown and a cape, with gold bracelets on her wrists.

Solange told Vogue that the nuptials were a labour of love. She and Alan, 52, exchanged vows at the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans, arriving via white-painted vintage bicycles.

Solange is no wall flower. She likes to make bold statements in everything she does, from music, to fashion, to what she tweets.

So a year after she grabbed the headlines, Solange is still a strong woman, who acts on impulse. But now maybe more people know not to mess with her…
