Strictly Come Dancing star Anita Rani has swapped her glitzy heels for trainers to lead a charity ramble around Windsor Great Park with her dance partner Gleb Savchenko.

The Countryfile presenter, 37, was joined by Pudsey Bear – the Children In Need mascot – and over 700 ramblers for the countryside walk.

The three-hour ramble, covering a 3.8 mile route, was filmed for an upcoming Countryfile BBC Children In Need Special, and forms part of a series of walks organised by the BBC One programme to help raise money for the charity.

Anita said: “It’s been such a pleasure to lead this ramble, especially given the fantastic public response. I’ve always been a supporter of BBC Children In Need, but to meet some of the young people who are directly benefiting from everyone’s support really brings new meaning to the cause.”

Her ramble followed her fellow presenters’ walks over the weekend, which saw Matt Baker taking on a five-mile scramble up Tryfan in Snowdonia with 30 viewers, including 18-year-old visually impaired fan Ella.

John Craven led a team of 100 hikers to Loch Leven in Scotland and Adam Henson visited Derbyshire’s Edale Valley with a group of 50 members of the public, while Ellie Harrison went to the Jurassic Coast with some 100 Countryfile viewers.

The five groups walked for more than 20 hours, with 5,374 miles clocked up by the individual walkers.

Anita hopes her ramble will inspire others to do the same.

She said: “I’m asking everyone at home to show their support and put on their own sponsored ramble. Whether with family or friends, you’ll find all the details on the Countryfile website, and will be helping make a real difference to young lives in the UK.”

The special Children In Need episode of Countryfile will air on BBC One on November 1.
