THE award-winning singer Robert Habermann tells the incredible story of the Hollywood Musical in Mad About Movies at Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday June 7.
From the magical moment when film star Al Jolson uttered the immortal works; “You Ain’t Heard Nothing Yet!” in the first 100% talking picture, The Jazz Singer, in 1927 to the kaleidoscopic musicals of Busby Berkeley, starring Dick Powell, Ruby Keeler and a bevy of chorus girls.
The evening will feature songs from the iconic film musicals of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers, Judy Garland and Gene Kelly, memorable hits from Walt Disney’s Pinocchio, The Jungle Book and Mary Poppins plus great numbers from movies starring Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Elvis Presley and many more.
Songs to be performed include 42nd Street, Cheek to Cheek, True Love, Over the Rainbow, The Lady is a Tramp, The Trolley Song climaxing with a medley of 20 Oscar winning songs.
