Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) has announced a special one-off event with EastEnders icons Anita Dobson (Angie Watts) and Lorna Fitzgerald (Abi Branning) on 25 February at Nuffield Southampton Theatres, City. The event will be hosted by BBC South Today presenter Sally Taylor MBE.

Anita and Lorna will share stories about their careers on and off stage and screen in an intimate setting on the main stage at NST’s brand new performing arts venue, NST City, in Southampton city centre.

The audience will have the unique opportunity to find out what it was like to work on one of Britain’s most popular soaps, how theatre differs to television and their future projects.

Anita became one of the most popular characters on television as Angie Watts in EastEnders, winning the Pye award for Television Personality of the Year, the Daily Mirror’s Actress of the Year and the TV Times Actress of the Year award, voted for by the readers. Anita’s many stage appearances include Budgie (Cambridge Theatre); Nancy in Frozen (Royal National Theatre) – Nominated for an Olivier, Evening Standard and London Critics Award; Mama Morton in Chicago (Adelphi Theatre); Stella in the all-star concert version of Follies (Royal Albert Hall); and most recently Madame Morrible in Wicked (Apollo Victoria).

Lorna started acting at the age of six, with roles in Casualty, The World According to Bex, Cherished and The Golden Hour. She famously played Abi Branning in EastEnders from 2006 until January 2018.

Both Anita and Lorna will star in NST’s world premiere production The Shadow Factory, written by Howard Brenton, as Lady Cooper/Ma and Jackie, respectively, opening on 16 February 2018.

All proceeds from this event will go towards NST’s Impact Fund, which helps the company to deliver an exceptional programme of community engagement and schools participation projects, Youth Theatre, Drama Club and Laboratory, NST’s artistic development programme.

Laura Eastwood, Director of Development and Communications at NST, said: “Anita, Lorna and Sally have all generously given up their time to take part in this special one-off event to raise money for our Impact Fund.

“This is a rare and exciting opportunity for audiences to hear behind the scenes stories from two such fantastic actresses and contribute to the important work we do in our community.”
