CRAIG David will find out tonight whether he has scooped the British Male Solo Artist gong at this year's Brit Awards.

But the singing sensation and superstar DJ expects to lose out to music legend David Bowie at a star-studded ceremony at London's 02 Arena.

He passed away 13 months ago but David Bowie is expected to win two Brit Awards, both the Best Male and Best Album for Blackstar, released just days before he died last year.

Southampton born Craig, who earlier this week announced a hometown gig at the Ageas Bowl on September 1, told the Daily Echo: "If anyone deserves it, it's David Bowie. His legacy lives on through his music. He's influenced so many, including me, and he's a legend.

"Just to be nominated alongside such deserving people is a real honour, but it's not all about the awards.

Other than Bowie, Craig's fellow nominees in the category are Skepta, Kano and Michael Kiwanuka.

The star grew up on Southampton's Holyrood estate and attended Bellemoor School.

Craig's comeback saw him record a number one album and appear at Glastonbury last year.

The 15,000 capacity concert at the home of Hampshire Cricket will follow an 18-date sold out tour in March and April and a ten week residency with his TS5 Pool Party at Ibiza Rocks Hotel.

It has been 16 years since the critically acclaimed Born To Do It album changed his life, catapulting him to international stardom.
