THE only major Gang Show between Yeovil and Southampton is ready to take to the stage once again.

Christchurch Scouts and Guides present their Gang Show at the town’s Regent Centre next Friday February 17 and Saturday February 18 February at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday 2.30pm.

The Christchurch Scout & Guide Gang show is one of the longest running in Britain, having begun life in April 1960 at the Priory Church Hall, before moving to the old Town Hall in 1963, Twynham School in 1969 and latterly the Regent Centre in 1998. This will be their 40th Gang Show over the 57 year period. The Gang Show is now produced every two years.

It promises to be bigger and better than ever with non-stop songs, dance routines, sketches, skits, slapstick, and stand-up comedy.

Since Ralph Reader produced the very first Gang Show in Great Britain in1932, it has become a worldwide showcase for young people. The Gang Show provides youngsters with stage experience, team building with adults, the discipline of learning and rehearsing scripts, plus a lot of fun entertaining others.

The show will also include some of Ralph Reader’s own songs including the traditional grand finale, On the Crest of a Wave. Indeed, Ralph Reader presented the Christchurch Scouts and Guides with their special “Gang Show Red Scarf,” when he attended a celebration of the Christchurch Gang Show in November 1966 at the old Pontins Holiday Camp ballroom on the banks of the River Stour in Christchurch. For 50 years the Christchurch Gang Show has been proud to wear the red Gang Show Scarf and the 2017 Gang Show will celebrate the Anniversary.

If you are a former Christchurch Scout or Guide of yesteryear, who just wants to enjoy a nostalgic trip down the Gang Show Memory Lane at the Regent, then don’t forget to bring your woggle!
