AN evening of celebratory music " for the community, by the community" will take place at Mayflower Theatre in the New Year.

Southampton Celebration Proms, is set to be an uplifting evening of music from across the city to raise funds for Mayflower Engage. Engage is the theatre’s outreach project, and supporting the programme means the Mayflower will continue to reach thousands of people every year with their educational and inspirational access to performing arts.

Mayflower Engage offers learning opportunities to the local community. Opportunities include: Tours, Post and Pre-show talks, Summer Youth Project and Mayflower Musical Youth Theatre (MMYT) to name but a few. Members of MMYT and Summer Youth Project will be performing at Southampton Celebration Proms. MMYT will be performing Keep the Home Fires Burning and March Medley with an accompanying orchestra and a soloist from Summer Youth Project will be singing Paradise by Coldplay. Mayflower Theatre’s Summer Youth Project, which offers local young people the opportunity to perform on the Mayflower stage, will be performing Guys and Dolls in 2017.

Southampton Celebration Proms are shaping up to be a fantastic evening of entertainment. Other confirmed performers include, Southampton Musical Society, Showcase Young Voices Choir and Southampton Choral Society.

Kate Warne, Community Liaison Officer at Rees Leisure, said: “We are honoured to be able to host our Proms evening at the prestigious Mayflower Theatre, and hope that our eclectic mix of musical genres appeals to a wide audience. This is an event for the community by the community and we are so excited that tickets are now on sale. We hope you enjoy the show.”

Southampton Celebration Proms is on Sunday January 29. Tickets are now on sale from the Mayflower Theatre and a group discount for groups of ten or more is in place. For more information on Engage please visit: mayflower.org.uk/engage
