SINGER-SONGWRITER Fran Healy and guitarist Andy Dunlop of Scottish rock band Travis dropped in to the Wave 105 studios to chat to presenter Andy Jackson and perform their new single ‘Magnificent time’.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, Travis’ long established career boasts more than five UK top 10 hit singles and two number one albums. The band spoke to Andy about shared histories in Glasgow and how this has shaped the chart-topping success of Travis. Fran also talked about time as an unsigned act, and how gigs in their hometown can be challenging.

Fans can see the band perform hits from their seminal album, ‘The Man Who’, along with tracks from their brand-new album, ‘Everything at Once’, on their tour which includes the O2 Academy in Bournemouth on Tuesday May 17.

Guitarist Andy Dunlop remarked that the new album was ‘sunny’, before the duo performed live versions of ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me’ and ‘3 Miles High’.

Describing the dedication of Travis fans from across the world, Fran explained: “I made a dance for the song, a goofy kind of line-dance, and all 2,000 Japanese people, they all knew the dance. It was the first time we ever played the song EVER live, and they all knew the dance. I was like, how the hell do they know the dance? And then after everyone had gone out I noticed there were loads of these bits of paper on the ground with the dance moves all printed on it.”

Described by presenter Andy Jackson as “bananas”, Travis’ new video for single ‘Magnificent Time’ begins with the songwriter dancing with the wrong girl in a nightclub in Berlin. Fran commented that radio was still king and the broadcast of their music on-air was the real test.

The band’s eighth album will be released on Friday April 29.
