As the world marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death on Saturday April 23 the cast of Single Spies will be performing at a special free event at Salisbury Playhouse.

Cast members, including Nicholas Farrell (Chariots of Fire and The Iron Lady), Belinda Lang (Bill Porter in 2point4 Children) and David Robb (Dr Clarkson in Downton Abbey), will take part in Shakespeare, the Elizabethans and Spying, a short entertainment of readings and scenes.

Actor Simon Hepworth, who has devised the event, explains “Theatres around the world are holding festivals, workshops and performances to mark the anniversary and we as a company wanted to celebrate it too. The phrase ‘Single Spies’ is borrowed from Hamlet and there are countless scenes in the plots of Shakespeare’s plays that turn upon ‘spying’ in the broader sense of the word, including Malvolio’s deception in Twelfth Night and the duping of Benedick and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing ”.

Shakespeare, the Elizabethans and Spying will take place in the Main House at Salisbury Playhouse on Saturday 23 April from 4.45pm-5.15pm following the matinee of Single Spies. The event is FREE and no ticket is required. A collection will be taken to support the work of Salisbury Samaritans.
