MANCHESTER'S legendary Happy Mondays open their 25th anniversary tour of the band's classic album Pills n Thrills And Bellyaches in Southampton next week.

It's the first of 21 dates in which the band will perform the album in its entirety, in addition to other hits.

Frontman Shaun Ryder said: “Great to be doing 25 years of Pills ‘n’ Thrills. Here’s to another 25 years. I'm going to remember it this time.

“There’s some really great work on ‘Pills ‘n’ Thrills…’. It was the album that put us on Top of The Pops.”

Released on November 27 1990, the album spent 31 weeks on the UK albums chart, peaking at number four and was preceded by the release of Happy Mondays’ biggest hit singles Step On and Kinky Afro, which both reached number five in the UK singles chart.

Happy Mondays will be at 02 Guildhall Southampton on Thursday.

Tickets: 02guildhallsouthampton.co.uk or 023 8063 2601.
