THE premise for the show: take songs from fourteen very diverse musicals and change them in some way.
Gender-changes added a different dimension and the talented cast – more than 30 strong – sang, danced and enjoyed every minute, as did the highly-appreciative audience.
Sam and Jo Gregory put the show together, with Will Pickering’s backing tracks and Paul and Kate Warne’s inventive, energetic choreography.
My pick of the first-half performances were those by Karla Brown’s Bui Doi from Miss Saigon, Sarah-Louise Ellard’s I Believe from Book of Mormon, Dawn Butterfield’s comic Dentist (Little Shop of Horrors) and Paul Rogers and Sam Gregory’s Defying Gravity (Wicked).
I particularly enjoyed the show-closers: Rent’s electrifying I Will Cover You, led by Aimee Wright, and the acapella La Vie Boheme.
After opening the show in style with A Chorus Line’s Dance 10: Looks 3, Daniel Ferrett ended it with the emotional Dream Girls showstopper And I Am Telling You. Great stuff.
