TICKETS are still on sale for an all-day Americana festival coming to Winchester next month.

The Railway Inn will burnish its reputation for roots and folk nights when SC4M Festival hosts 10 artists across two stages on Sunday, September 13.

Topping the bill are Canadian folk-rockers Great Lake Swimmers and The Coal Porters, a celebrated country and bluegrass act which has made Britain its home.

Great Lake Swimmers, fronted by Tony Dekker, have drawn comparisons to heroes of folk like Nick Drake and Bonny 'Prince' Billy in a career spanning 13 years.

Their new album, A Forest of Arms, was inspired by Dekker's environmental work with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Known for recording in diverse stretches of Canada, the band tracked parts of the album in Tyendinaga Caves, Ontario's oldest natural cavern.

The Coal Porters were formed in 1989 as a traditional bluegrass act with fiddles and harmonica, but have evolved into a country rock act since moving to London midway through their career.

Wry songwriter Andrew Combs, country strummer Peter Bruntnell and Devon's Small Town Jones will also be performing.

Missourian singer Barna Howard will join Combs, a Nashville-based lyricist combining country and pop, on the bill as part of their eight-date UK tour.

Howard's Americana channels his upbringing in Eureka, a small midwestern town whose decline was epitomised by the singer's childhood home being demolished to make way for a Wal-Mart car park.

Completing the lineup are Gill Sandell and Chris T-T, The Dreaming Spires, Co-Pilgrim and Robert Vincent.

The non-profit event was rebranded SC4M last year after its previous name, South by South Central, drew a legal threat from the organisers of Texas' massive South by Southwest festival. SC4M 2014 was headlined by Danny and the Champions of the World.

Doors to the strictly 18-plus event open at noon, with music running until 11pm. Food and ale will be available.

Tickets cost £30 and can be bought from railwaylive.co.uk.
