Matt Monro was known as The Man With The Golden Voice who became one of the most popular entertainers on the international music scene during the sixties and seventies.

Not a day goes by without a Matt Munro song getting radio air play.

He died in 1985 at only 54 after losing his brave battle against cancer but his music lives on through his son Matt Monro Junior.

The 51-year-old singer is celebrating the life and music of his father with a 30th anniversary tour which stops off at Eastleigh’s Concorde on October 23, featuring.

Known as the singer’s singer and with a career spanning 30 years, Munro senior filled cabaret rooms, night clubs, music halls and stadiums in Australia, Japan, The Phillipines, Hong Kong, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and America.

Monro junior has inherited a rich musical legacy along with classics from his dad’s back catalogue, including: Born Free, My Kind of Girl, Walk Away, Portrait of My Love and Softy As I Leave You.

The Concorde show will include video footage and anecdotes from the legendary crooner’s life.

Matt Munro was often hailed as the Britain’s answer to Frank Sinatra who would have been 100 in December.

The Concorde is joining a nationwide salute to one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century by welcoming the UK Salutes Frank tour on October 29.

Live From the Sands and The Main Event will be performed in their entirety by the Peter Long Orchestra with singers Iain Mackenzie and Jeff Hooper. The show will be narrated by Leo Green as heard on BBC Radio 2.

The Sands Hotel on the famed Las Vegas Strip was where Frank and his fellow Rat Pack members entertained a star studded audience including John F Kennedy.

Sinatra, affectionately known as O’l Blue Eyes and The Chairman of the Board, died aged 82 in 1998.

He once said: “May you live to be a 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.”
