INDIE stars Reverend and the Makers will return to Hampshire as part of a new nationwide tour.

The Sheffield band, fronted by Jon McClure, have announced a headline date at the Wedgewood Rooms on Albert Road, Portsmouth on November 17.

Alongside bands like Arctic Monkeys, the five-piece are a big part of the close knit and industrious Sheffield sound of recent years.

They have famously supported Oasis and Kasabian and, more recently, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Their first single, Heavyweight Champion of the World, reached number eight in 2007, while all of their last four albums, including their debut The State of Things, have been top 20 hits.

A month before their Portsmouth gig the band will release their latest compilation called Mirrors while McClure is also set to publish a book of his own lyrics and poetry.

Reverend and the Makers continue to inspire the next generation of Yorkshire musicians.

In June, McClure joined up and coming band The Sherlocks on stage in front of a sell-out 900-plus crowd in Sheffield to play The Clash’s version of I Fought the Law.

It’s another big November gig for the Portsmouth venue after last month’s news of The Enemy returning to play there later in the month.

Reverend and the Makers play The Wedgewood Rooms, Albert Road, Portsmouth on November 17 2015.
