IF YOU remember strutting your stuff and burning the floor to all those 70s dance crazes like the Bump, the Hustle and YMCA, then Boogie Nights – The Musical is for you!

Christchurch Youth in Drama will perform Boogie Nights – The Musical at the Regent in Christchurch on Friday and Saturday (August 1).

The show is brimming over with sounds of the Seventies with disco classics, sizzling soul sensations and rock anthems of the era.

Written by Jon Conway, Boogie Nights – The Musical premiered in the West End in 1997 and has been regularly revived ever since.

Boogie Nights is the hilarious and heart-warming story of the lives, laughs and loves of a group of young people whose happy-go-lucky lifestyle is about to be turned upside down. Roddy is a jack-the-lad who dream to be a rock star.

His long-suffering girlfriend, Debs, enjoys the fun and frolics but she wants more from life and because she loves Roddy, she lives in hope that he will soon settle down with her after five years together.

There is a fancy dance contest at their local disco and Roddy and Debs plan to accompany their best friends, Terry and Trish. However, Debs confides in Trish that she is pregnant with Roddy’s baby but before she can bring herself to tell Roddy, Debs discovers that he has been playing around with Lorraine, the singer in the band. Meanwhile, the DJ, Dean, has told Debs that she is way too good for Roddy.

The dream of disco stardom suddenly pales in the face of reality.

Through all the tears and laughter, the good and the bad times and the ups and downs of the disco beat, can Roddy and Debs find what they are truly searching for in life – love and happiness.

The soundtrack for Boogie Nights – The Musical, is a veritable Disco Inferno of more than 30 hits from the sensational Seventies including: Blame it on the Boogie, D.I.S.C.O, Shoop Shoop Song, Bridge over Troubled Water, Copacabana, Bye Bye Baby, I Will Survive, Tragedy and YMCA.

Boogie Nights brings together those who have participated in live stage performances before and those who have never done a school play. The young and energetic cast for Boogie Nights – The Musical is aged from 12-18 years.
