FIVE actors take on more than 100 characters in the hilarious adaptation of John Buchan’s The 39 Steps, which runs at Studio Theatre in Ashley Road June 8-13.

The comedy thriller, which won a clutch of awards on both sides of the Atlantic and is still running in the West End, also plunders iconic moments from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic screen version from 1935.

Director Lesley Bates said: “It’s a tall order involving the Flying Scotsman, the Forth Bridge, a chase across the Highlands and a beautiful blonde, but we’re having great fun working out how to do it all in our tiny theatre.”

Hampshire Chronicle:

Paul Chalmers plays Richard Hannay, on the run for murder, but determined to clear his name and save England from a dastardly German plot.

Alistair Faulkner, James Bradwell, Rachel Fletcher and Emma Young play everyone else from foreign femme fatales and heroines to underwear salesmen, German spy masters, Scottish crofters and a herd of sheep plus many more.

Performances start at 7.30pm. Tickets at £10, concessions £8, are available from Salisbury Information Centre, Fish Row (Tel 01722 342860) or on the door.
