The Hudsucker Proxy will open at Nuffield Theatre on Tuesday May 19 following a week’s delay due to injuries sustained by two cast members.

Nuffield delayed the first week of performances of their new production of The Hudsucker Proxy due to an issue in the dress rehearsal, which left two members of the cast injured and requiring hospital treatment.

Clive Wood and Nathan McMullen required hospital treatment after an incident, which occurred during the final dress rehearsal of the production at Nuffield Theatre, on Saturday 9 May.

Both actors have now been discharged from hospital and have returned home.

The producers wish the actors a full and speedy recovery and have been working closely with them, the creative company and technical teams, before taking the decision to continue with the production.

The Hudsucker Proxy will now open at Nuffield on Tuesday 19 May, with the Press Night on Thursday 21 May.

Tim Lewis will take over the role of Buzz and the other parts originally to be played by Nathan McMullen, and one of the directors, Simon Dormandy, will step in to cover the role of Mussburger, which was to be played by Clive Wood.

As an actor, Simon spent two years with Cheek by Jowl and five with the RSC as well as working with many other companies and theatres, on film and television.

The producers hope that Nathan McMullen may reprise the role of Buzz later in the production run, when it transfers to the co-producers, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, in June this year.

Sam Hodges, Director, Nuffied, said: "This has been a very difficult week for everyone involved, but it is to the enormous credit of the entire company that we feel able to proceed, having taken every step to ensure that nothing like this can ever happen again.

"It is wonderful news that Clive and Nathan are both able to return home, I would personally like to thank them and their families for their remarkable resilience and optimism, the rest of the cast and creative team for their selflessness and generosity, and all the staff at Nuffield and our coproducers, Liverpool Everyman &Playhouse, and the staff at Southampton General Hospital for their support’.

Gemma Bodinetz, Artistic Director, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, said: "Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse are delighted that both actors have been discharged from hospital. We look forward to welcoming the company to Liverpool in June and wish Nathan and Clive speedy recoveries”

The Hudsucker Proxy will now open at Nuffield in Southampton on Tuesday 19 May and at the Liverpool Playhouse from Friday 5 June.
