This Bank Holiday Monday the Larkin family will be romping across the stage at Groundlings Theatre in a production of Darling Buds of May - a new 1950s Rock and Roll Musical.

The production runs at the Portsmouth venue until Saturday May 30.

Steven Arnold fondly known as Ashley from Coronation Street will be playing Pop Larkin and Heather Udon will be by his side as Ma Larkin.

Heather is also the Musical Director of the show and said: “The show is a bit like Grease the musical on a farm, the music is uplifting and the dancing is amazing, I think this is a show the whole family will enjoy.”

This is the audience’s chance to meet their beloved characters such as sensuous Mariette who is played by Alice Osmanski and her beloved shy tax inspector Cedric Charlton, better known as Charlie.

The musical is based on the book “The Darling Buds of May” by H E Bates and the brand new 1950s musical was written by David Burton and the music by Heather Uden.

Its TV series started in 1991 and the last episode was aired in 1993. Thanks to the lovable Larkin family spreading their own unique style of love, laughter and way of life the series earned big success.
