I VIVIDLY remember 35 years ago my parents suggesting that Adam Ant was a passing phase in my childhood as I played Dirk Wears White Sox over and over again.

But fast forward to 2015 and The Engine Rooms in Southampton and nothing has changed.

Despite a few bumpy years, Adam Ant hasn’t lost his stage presence and continues to wow the audience although chat between the songs was limited.

Within the first few songs we’re firmly back in 1979/80 and favourites such as Car Trouble, Day I Met God and Never Trust a Man (With Egg on his Face) have us exactly where Adam wants us – shouting for more!

The evening was very much a homage to the era of Dirk Wears White Sox with only Kings of the Wild Frontier as a departure from the heavier early sounds of Adam and the Ants but the crowd left happy as the final bars of Physical rang out and Adam left the stage.

But while Adam Ant topped the bill the Engine Rooms audience was also rocking to support band Shooze.

It’s not the first time the ska-punk band has been on tour with Adam Ant and it’s easy to see why they are back – the perfect complement to the great man.
