A MAJOR exhibition looking at the work of a highly-influential 20th century feminist artist is on in Southampton.

Visitors to Southampton City Art Gallery can delve into the mind of French-born sculptor and painter Louise Bourgeois, who died in 2010.

Headless male and female mannequins made of stockings and newspaper mix with images of the human body in an exhibition brought by Artists Rooms, a collection of art acquired by the National Galleries of Scotland and the Tate.

Louise Bourgeois: A Woman Without Secrets explores the life of Bourgeois, who was one of the leading lights of the feminist movement throughout the 20th century.

Exploring issues such as vulnerability and fear, she often drew on her own life experience and repeatedly hit on the theme of the various roles of womanhood.

The exhibition runs until April 18 and coincides with a display which is on at the moment in the Tate Modern featuring works on paper by the late artist.
