HE is the longest serving member of the legendary American super group The Drifters and has played twice at The White House.

Roy G Hemmings will have a festive audience when he sprinkles some Motown magic on Christmas Eve at Eastleigh’s Concorde Club.

The story of The Drifters, a doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group, is etched in pop history.

They had 13 Billboard Hot 100 top 30 chart hits and the ever changing line-up has included 60 vocalists.

A great showman and dynamic singer, Roy has worked alongside founder Johnny Moore for more than ten years.

He has entertained audiences around the world with his easy, relaxed style and fabulous voice in a career that spans four decades.

It includes appearances in several Royal Variety shows and twice before President Bill Clinton at The White House.

Roy enjoyed major success when he signed a recording deal in the mid-seventies with the J.A.L.N. Band, one of the first bands to storm the British charts with the dance record Disco Music, I Like It produced by Pete Waterman.

After three well-received albums, the group disbanded and Roy launched his solo career. In 1997 he released his first solo album, No Afro, No Sequins, No Flares to great critical acclaim.

He followed this in 1999 with his second solo album, All Talked Out which includes a fine version of The Drifters classic, Like Sister and Brother.

The Concorde show is guaranteed to put everyone in the festive mood with classics like Get Ready, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, Under the Boardwalk, Can’t Help Myself, My Girl, Save the Last Dance for Me, and Love Train.

Earlier in the day Santa’s Jazz Band will entertain the Stoneham Lane club’s lunchtime audience.
