FREE show-stopping entertainment will be wowing a Hampshire town tomorrow.

Eastleigh Unwrapped will see venues around the town centre come to life with drama, dance and art thanks to numerous performers.

The events, running from 11am to 6pm, will include aerial theatre, circus, explosive dance and live music.

Alongside this, residents can help build a flying machine, climb inside an enormous whale, listen to a range of talented buskers and watch a giant acrobatic wheel as it rolls down the High Street.

Headline act Square Peg will combine circus with theatre and dance to tell their interpretation of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s epic poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

This will see performers suspended above the audience’s heads in the park area next to The Point theatre, in Leigh Road.

Other acts include samba band Batala Portsmouth, playing authentic Afro Brazilian samba reggae music, hula hoop artist Chloe Lloyd, a one man and one woman circus juggling act and a French solo dance performance by Penelope Parrau.

Acrojou Circus Theatre will present The Wheel House, a story which unfolds inside and around the circular set as it rolls along at a gentle pace, with the audience walking alongside.

Talking Birds will present The Whale which puts the audience inside a submarine, where they meet submariner Jonah.

It depicts Jonah’s dilemma on how to communicate with his loved one on the shore.

Members of the Point Youth Dance Company will perform at locations across the town and a specially commissioned dance duet called Stolen Dreams will be performed for the first time.

There is also plenty for residents to get involved in with the Point Youth Theatre’s street arts performance group taking to the streets of Eastleigh and the chance to try an aerial hoop.

Artists will be inviting strangers to pose and tell their story as they are drawn.

Also taking part is Eastleigh creative hub The Sorting Office, in Wells Road, where artists will open the doors for its summer Open Studios event.

Eastleigh Unwrapped, in its second year, is organised by The Point theatre and is part of the Recreate programme, a project to boost economic regeneration and create jobs through the creative industries.
