THE violent, dark Walter Hill picture The Warriors has become something of a cult favourite owing to its timely subject matter – inner city gangs – and its notorious reputation.
The action begins when representatives of all the New York City street gangs attempt to unite their numbers into one powerful group, and the resultant shooting is wrongly pinned on a gang known as The Warriors.
The Warriors, stranded outside of their ‘turf’ and facing the violent revenge of the rival gangs, must struggle to survive their flight through enemy territory to return ‘home’.
Amongst this lightning-paced film’s numerous virtues is the stunning photography by Andrew Laszlo.
The film is showing at Harbour Lights Picturehouse from today.
