RUPINDER Nagra is special guest at Winchester Film Society’s showing of Amal on Tuesday at 8.30pm at the Screen Winchester.

Rupinder plays the lead character Amal in the film of the same name that has gathered awards in Canada and America but is virtually unseen in the UK. Rupinder will be giving the opening introduction to the film and answering questions from the audience after the showing.

Amal has gained plaudits for its recreation of the crowded hustle of Delhi’s street life. The main character operates as a rickshaw driver who is uncomplaining, unselfish and, unlike his peers, actually charges the meter rate! Maybe it is for this reason that a billionaire benefactor picks him out as the most deserving man in the city and leaves him a fortune in his will.

The plot turns on the difficulties of rediscovering Amal in a city of over 20 million people. This critically acclaimed film is the debut feature of Toronto-based film-maker Richie Mehta. The film is an adventurous fusion of Hindu fable, Bollywood melodrama and neorealist cityscape. It’s an exciting cinematic mix that Winchester filmgoers are bound to enjoy. The film showing at the Screen is open to members of the public and Film Society members.
