Felix, Mireille, and their two children, Eric and Michel, arrive in Marseilles. A few years later, barely settled in Belleville, Felix meets Serge, a local sponsor with whom he makes friends. Serge leads Felix on the path to organised crime. A dispute with the police causes Felix to take responsibility for a crime done by Serge, landing him in jail. Mireille is ashamed and tells her children that their father has returned to Israel to fight.
