Les Contes d’Hoffman at The Screen

First published in What's On

THE Met Opera is screened live at the Screen at Winchester tomorrow with Les Contes d’Hoffman.

Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) directs this new production, returning after the triumph of his Met Barber of Seville.

Offenbach’s fictionalised take on the life and loves of the German Romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffmann is a fascinating psychological journey.

Met Music Director James Levine conducts star tenor Joseph Calleja in the tourde- force title role, with Anna Netrebko as the tragic Antonia, Elina Garanca as the ambiguous Nicklausse, and Alan Held as the demonic four villains.
