AS far as eagerly anticipated films go, Sex & The City has got to be one of the biggest.

And as hundreds of stylishly-dressed women queued excitedly in a never-ending snakes and ladders game across the Odeon in Southampton, expectations were high.

Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Chris Noth Director: Michael Patrick King

So ladies, you will be pleased to hear - this film does not disappoint!

It's been hyped up as much as a royal wedding but the media circus that surrounded this film's making was justified as it's a brilliantly fast-paced chick flick with a Hermes bag full of style and a double shot of wit.

The flick is set a few years after the end of the series. Samantha (Cattrall) has moved to LA with her filmstar boyfriend, Smith, Charlotte (Davis) is looking after her beautiful adopted daughter, Lily and Miranda (Nixon) is still living in Brooklyn juggling her family life with her career. Carrie (Parker), the successful writer, is still head over Manolos in love with Big (Noth) and they're house hunting together.

Things all seem to be well but the course of love never did run smooth and soon, the fabulous foursome are relying on each other to get through the tough times.

And boy are those tough times tear jerkers! Sarah Jessica Parker's acting is absolutely brilliant as she portrays the vulnerable Carrie and the other actresses really portray the tight bond between the four characters.

But the flick is not downbeat for long as it is deliciously-fast paced and just as a tear jerking moment comes along, a witty one-liner brings the mood up again. Surprisingly, Charlotte is the funniest character in the film, although it's a close call between her character-based humour and Carrie's quick wit.

Unlike other TV shows-turned-movies, Sex & The City didn't feel like three episodes tagged together and the storyline had more twists than a 1960s dancefloor.

As expected the costumes were absolutely breathtaking and stylist, Patricia Field, came up trumps with the gorgeous wedding couture gowns featured in one scene.

All in all, the film lives up to its expectations and is a fantastically witty and frank look at the lives of four women who we have all come to know and love over the last 10 years. If you're a fan of the show you'll love the movie and if you're a fan of fashion, you'll love the wardrobe even more!
