THOUSANDS of art-lovers are expected to flock to Southampton as the city's largest annual arts event takes place.
ArtVaults Season Four showcases an innovative mix of contemporary art in the unique setting of the city's mediaeval vaults and structures, areas that are not usually open to the public.
More than 70 artists entered their work in the hope of making it into the exhibition, with sculpture and light and video installations being some of the pieces on offer.
The vaults' history and project concept will also be explored at the "ArtVaults in Context" exhibition at Southampton's Bargate Monument Gallery.
The vaults are open noon to 4pm every weekend until September 21 and entry is free. For an ArtVaults map and guide, visit the Bargate Monument Gallery or the website www.artvaults.co.uk, and to book Discovery Days guided tours call 023 8033 8778.
